I used to play on a soccer team called "Los Vaqueros Guapos" (I think that's the correct spelling) which translates as "The Handsome Cowboys."
We all took Brazilian names and put them on our shirts.
I was Jovaldo. We had a Gilberto, Pedrinho, Ze Roberto (okay, we copied that one from the real Brazil), etc.
Stupid, but fun and it puzzled the shit out of the Mexican teams in the league to see a team with a Spanish name and all of the players had fake Portuguese names and we were all a bunch of Anglo-whiteys.
Not to sound patrinizing, but is everyone putting in their last name too? That totally changed the cool factor of my name. Jeffrinho is just little Jeff in Portuguese, you know?
Unfortunately for me, they just added an "o" at the end of my real name.
ReplyDeleteHowever, my handle, comes back Moeta. Rock!
Thought that was so cool that just had to post link to it on my blog. FYI mine is Parncos. Bit naff but I'll take it. Pippa
ReplyDeletePardon my british ignorance but wtf does naff mean?
